Flame retardant polycarbonate filament
As a leading manufacturer of high performance and engineering plastics, it was our goal to find a solution for the processing of engineering grades on desktop printers. In order to make engineering grade filaments printable on printers without a heating chamber we specially designed a polycarbonate filament for Ultimaker printers, TECAFIL PC FR natural.
TECAFIL PC FR natural can be classified as a fire retardant filament and is available in 2,85mm diameter.
This polycarbonate 3D printer filament is intended for applications in aerospace industry. To fulfil the particular requirements for aircraft interior applications this PC 3D printer filament was developed on the basis of a flame retardant polymer. By using flame retardant additives within an engineering grade filament we are able to offer an alternative to inherent flame retardant materials like PEEK, PEKK or PEI. This makes our flame retardant 3d printer filament a perfect choice for applications like housings, cell holders, brackets or connectors. It can also be a cost efficient alternative to applications that had been made of inherently flame retardant materials.
3D printed samples of TECAFIL PC FR natural are qualified according to FAR 25.853 (a) and UL94 V-0 by testing the Ultimaker printed components according to market standards and regulatories.
Printing polycarbonate is often described as difficult especially without a heated building chamber. We have met this challenge by reducing the glass transition temperature of this polycarbonate 3D filament to 80°C. As a result, this flame retardant filament can be printed without a heating chamber and still avoiding any warping in your printed components. So even without a heating chamber, printing Ensinger's polycarbonate 3D printing filament enables a perfect layer adhesion without almost any voids.
Our efforts in material development aim, among other things, to ensure ideal mechanical properties. For which we have been able to optimise the tensile strength (XY Orientation) of our Ultimaker PC FR filament in such a way that almost the values of injection-moulded parts (97%) are achieved.
This 3D printing material is a flame retardant filament, that has been tested according to FAR 25.853 and UL94 V-0.
